Randy,

I wanted to take a moment to express my appreciation for the great job that Jeremy is doing with my fitness program. I am confident that over the past several months that under his watchful eye and encouragement, that I have continued to regain a level of fitness that had eroded over the years. Although he has introduced several activities that are not "my favorites", I can not argue with the results.

As I have for the past two and one years, I continue to promote Personal Fitness as an excellent option to individuals that are interested in getting back into shape.

Please recognize Jeremy on my behalf. (perhaps he will go bit easier on me at my next workout)

Regards, Jack

Dennis has been my Personal trainer at Personal Fitness for approximately 10 years and the reason I continue to come here. My trainer build’s variety into my exercise routine so it is never dull. If you have joint or muscular related problems the trainers at Personal Fitness know how to make it right again. It is also a pleasant social experience. I see all of my friends and local leaders. The facility is always clean. All of the other trainers are equally wonderful and capable. My daughter and wife both come here. Everyone I have referred here has thanked me.

I cannot thank you enough for adding yoga to the benefits of membership. I have found the classes to be the perfect compliment to my workout regimen. In addition to the benefits of added stretching, which I admit I could, but do not do on my own, I have been happily surprised at how much added core and upper body strength I have gained from adding just a day or two of yoga each week to my routine. Jessica does such a great job with the classes, keeping us interested by continuing to add new challenges while tailoring the classes to the strengths (and weaknesses) of those of us in attendance. I know that the other “regulars” would encourage everyone to try the yoga classes, although we do so at the risk of making them too popular for the limited space available. Randy, you may need to add some more classes soon!

Hi Randy,
Just wanted to let you know that due to an unfortunate accident I will not be coming in for a few months. The good news is you and my personal trainer have made my life so much easier for me I could not imagine what could have happened!

On May 2nd I have broken my left ankle in two places and fractured my right foot. As you can imagine I have very restricted mobility. My challenge is to walk on crutches and be able to get up and down from furniture. If not for Karlyn working with me prior to my accident, I would have been wheelchair bound. The orthopedic doctor was surprised at the ease of me moving my cast leg. If not for training, using the other leg (thigh muscles), getting up from a seated position would have been impossible. My back & neck that I thought would have been a problem, held up during all of this!

The personal training I have received allowed for me to have movement and strength in my arms & legs, ability to balance on one foot (yes the broken one), and most of all core strength to haul myself around.

I miss the biweekly training sessions and can not wait to resume my work outs.

Thank you to Karlyn for helping me to be in shape to be able to survive this unfortunate accident more comfortably than it would have been. And thank you to you for having quality staff and a pleasant facility.

See you SOON!!!

What a pleasure I get from sharing the experiences I have had over the last year at Personal Fitness. I joined during last year's Spring Open House. My life has changed drastically and has been deeply enriched by the time I have spent here. When I first walked in I was a scared and unsure that I would fit in and feel comfortable enough to come back. I had not walked into a co-ed gym in a very long time and my body was extremely overweight.

With the encouragement of a dear friend, I walked through the door and found a place I now equate to Cheers (without the barstools and beer, of course). All of the staff are friendly and truly concerned with my well being. It is not just the staff that makes the place feel like Cheers. The other members are as friendly and supportive as the staff.

I was extremely fortunate to have my first assessment scheduled with Patrick. I was so nervous, I almost called to cancel the appointment. I nervously made jokes with Patrick as I went through the exercises. I was very unfit at the time. Patrick put me at ease immediately.

I started with a general membership and then felt so comfortable I signed up for personal fitness sessions with Patrick. Through my weight training sessions with Patrick, the sound nutritional guidance he has provided and his constant encouragement for me to do as much cardio as I possibly can, I have lost nearly 50 pounds. More importantly, I now know that I will reach my fitness goals as long as I continue to come and spend time at Personal Fitness.

I am truly grateful to everyone who has given me such positive experiences at Personal Fitness. My initial fears were overcome very quickly, which has allowed me to continue to come in and workout, which in turn has allowed me to become a healthier, happier person. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

I have been a yo-yo dieter for years, trying all the fad diets, only to lose weight initially, gain it all back - and then some. During BS&K's Wellness Initiative in March, I decided to take advantage of the Firm's special monthly rate with Personal Fitness. I also signed up for personal training sessions with Adam.

When I initially began exercising, I had all I could do to survive 20 minutes on the treadmill. After my first personal training session, I could barely walk down the stairs to the locker room. But I stuck with it, going to the gym five days a week and during the summer I logged over 300 miles on my rollerblades. I never imagined I would be addicted to exercise! Now I don't feel right if I don't get some type of exercise. I'm still at the gym almost every day at lunch time and when I can't go during lunch, I go before work. Now that the weather is no longer conducive to rollerblading, I do a spinning class twice a week in the evenings.

In addition to the exercise, I completely changed my eating habits.Using a food log for the first few months helped me focus on calorie and fat intake. Last summer I grew most of my own vegetables and stocked up on fruits every week at the Farmer's Market. It's all about portion control for me and I keep 100-calorie snacks everywhere - in my office, briefcase, purse, gym bag and car. I'm even cooking healthy meals these days and have eliminated all of those processed foods I used to crave. I've now lost 40 pounds and feel great!

Personal Fitness offers me the convenience of being able to fit my exercise into my day. Adam kept me focused on eating properly as well as the importance of strength training in addition to cardio. In the past I only focused on calories and didn't really include exercise as part of my weight loss program. Now I can tackle most any cardio machine and I pride myself on being able to do 20 knee raises with ease! This has been a complete lifestyle change for me and Personal Fitness is helping me achieve my goals.

Since the introduction of Personal Fitness’s General Membership offering to our firm in 2005, we have had 28 attorneys and staff members join the club. Many of them work with Personal Trainers on a regular basis. I continue to receive positive feedback from our members regarding how knowledgeable, friendly and professional the staff is and that you do not have to wait to use equipment like other gyms. Also, the locker rooms are always clean and well stocked with personal amenities which make everyone’s gym bag a little lighter.

As part of the Firm’s Health & Wellness Program, we include Group Membership information with our new hire orientation packages and make trial passes available to everyone. We also invite Randy and his staff to our annual Open Enrollment and Health & Wellness Fairs to conduct body fat/weight checks and provide nutritional information to our employees, which has been well received.

Speaking on a more personal level, I initially joined Personal Fitness out of convenience since it is located directly across the street from our office. That’s way, I had no excuse for skipping a workout. Being a mother of three and working full-time does not allow me much time in the evenings to workout so I really look forward to “my time” during the lunch hour. By taking this time, I feel more productive at work and at home. I also believe that the mental benefits of distressing at the gym are invaluable.

Thank you Randy and all your staff for your encouragement and for convincing me that anyone can squeeze fitness into their schedule if he or she really wants to. You have really shown that good health and well-being is a great value!

Personal Fitness Helped Me Make Good on a Promise

Last year, in a moment of weakness at a family holiday gathering, I made the commitment to compete in a Quadrathlon – a competition comprising swimming, cycling, rowing and running – in the following July. (I had competed in it a few years previous as the swimmer on a team of four, but after the event, I was very disheartened by my performance and lack of stamina.) And here I was, age 58, out of shape and taking on a challenge for which I was quite unprepared. I couldn’t back out; my family was counting on me. My honor was at stake. Where to turn?

I knew several members of the firm at which I work were members of Personal Fitness. I quizzed them about the staff, the facilities, and their general satisfaction. All the feedback was very positive. So I joined right after the New Year. I had sessions with a trainer to get me started and exercising safely and appropriately. And then it was just me and a consistent weekly schedule from January until the July 4th weekend of the Quadrathlon.

The result…? I did way better than just finishing without ever walking a step, much less quitting. I turned in the second best solo time in my class and had the satisfaction of not only beating a few lean twenty-somethings, but a few TEAMS of lean twenty-somethings.

To say the least, I was happy, relieved and more than a little grateful for having Personal Fitness in my corner. So what’s my first New Year’s Resolution for 2007? Renew my membership at Personal Fitness.

I am so glad that the “general membership” concept was developed and now offered to CH’s employees. The location is convenient and it is easy to fit into my schedule. The PF staff are knowledgeable and ready to help. Sherry has helped me create a reasonable weightlifting routine that improves my strength and does not aggravate my physical limitations. In addition, it is easy for me to add more weight as my strength increases. I am always greeted with a smile and a genuine “How are you doing today?”

Our son is a young athlete who was looking to improve on his strength and agility. Personal Fitness has given our son the chance to compete with athletes at the elite level by giving him the training and conditioning that he needs.. Their experience and knowledge helped to create a personalized training program designed specifically to help our son achieve his athletic goals. We could see great improvement in his performance over just a short period of time. The Personal Fitness staff also goes out of their way to build personal relationships with their clients, and to make clients feel comfortable while training. Establishing that comfort level was key to helping our son become enthusiastic about doing his workouts and he actually looked forward to his training sessions. It’s true that nobody can do the exercises for you, and that you will only get results that are proportional to the effort you put into your training program. However, the staff at Personal Fitness can help establish the optimal training program for your individual needs and help motivate you along the way to reaching your athletic goals.

I have been training with Patrick Flaherty for almost 2 1/2 years, and I am most happy to have the opportunity to speak on his behalf. He is amazing to work with- always focused, positive, and professional, all with an authentic sweetness and great sense of humor! I really look forward to my workouts, and that's a nice way to feel. Two years ago, my husband and I moved from the city, and because of Patrick, I did not consider membership at a club MUCH closer to home. He makes the downtown facility "feel" like home. Patrick, Randy, and Patty have been most professional and accommodating in all dealings my family has had in this very intimate and welcoming space! I have also been impressed by Randy's supportive offerings to the community, most recently to Syracuse Community Radio.

I have been a member of Personal Fitness since it was established in 1995.
After working out in numerous gyms in the Syracuse area and trying all the FAD diets available, I was introduced to Personal Fitness.
From day one I was impressed with the professionalism, knowledge & caring of the personal trainers.
Recently, I had x-rays taken of my back and the results compared to 10 years ago showed minimal arthritis. The doctors all agree it has been my consistent weight training, cardio etc. at Personal Fitness. The FOOD LOG has always enabled me to get back to that healthier way of eating through the exchange system.
The CLUB CHALLENGES give that extra " Cardio " boost I ALWAYS need.
Most of all whenever I get a little "OFF TRACK" with my goals Dennis & Randy are always there to guide me through.
THANKS GUYS !!!
I am looking forward (God willing) to a long-term healthy lifestyle with Personal Fitness as my guide.

My overall experience with Personal Fitness has been nothing short of fantastic. I am a general member and have been working out, on and off, for 15 years. I have always been under the impression that I didn't need the help of a personal trainer to accomplish my fitness goals. I was wrong!

Recently I had two personal training sessions with Jason. The first consisted of a complete body analysis including body fat test, flexibility, weight, etc. The second session was a difficult strength training session that was dramatically different from my normal routine. I was so impressed with the experience that I now have Jason helping me with my diet, monitoring my progress and training me at least once a month where he changes my routine. I would recommend that all general members, regardless of experience, enlist the guidance of a personal trainer to help reach your fitness goals.

Hi Randy,

Thanks for noticing my results from training w/ Patrick, and encouraging me to add my testimonial.

I think it's quite fitting you asked for my story, because the reason I learned of, and became a member of PFP, is through the testimonials from some of your other members.

I was encouraged to attend one of your member appreciation nights. My friends Maryanne Doherty, Terri Bright, and Mary Radford had mentioned how much they enjoyed the club. I joined in April and have been enjoying what is offered ever since. I train w/ Patrick, who is amazing. I like what he has mapped out for me, and his knowledge and professionalism is never ending.

I enjoy the cleanliness, convenient location, friendly and professional staff, and obviously the results. It's a great facility with some really great people using the facility as well as working there.
I look forward to a long future as a client.

All the best to you,

Jim Winterton

I had a full hip replacement in November of 2003. I was very worried about being able to coach football and racquetball as I was worried about the demand of being on my feet for long hours. In February of 2004 I began rehabilitating with PFP fitness and training with Dennis DeWayne and Randy Sabourin. I was able to resume coaching by June of 2004.
I coached a week long Racquetball camp in July of 2004 and even went fly fishing for three days in the mountain streams of Colorado. I was able to meet the rigorous demands of coaching thanks to the efforts of the trainers at PFP fitness.

Randy:
As my month of being "Most Improved Client" draws to a close, I want to let you know how very much I appreciate the operation you run and the professionals you employ.

Six months ago when I timidly came by in response to your Fall membership drive, I had no idea how far I would come in such a short amount of time. I had been attending Weight Watchers for 4 months and was responding to my own challenge that after I lost the first 20 lbs., I would do what I had never done before.....exercise. I have arthritis in both knees and have had multiple surgeries over the past 40 years. I also have a metal plate and 9 screws in my ankle from a bad break many years ago. I was also struggling with tendonitis in my shoulder. I was mostly afraid of further hurting my body by doing something as new as working out! Your warm welcome and gracious tour of the facility encouraged me to try your offer of a free week. You gave me a set, written workout and left me alone for that first week....no pressure. I was impressed with the friendliness of the staff and the"un-crowdedness" of the gym allowed me to try things out without having to deal with being overly self-consciousness. After that first week, I was sold. I also went to an orthopedic doctor for my shoulder who prescribed physical therapy and I went to Carey & Daley co-located with you, so I could 'kill two birds with one stone". That, too was a wonderful connection, since in addition to PT, I got some instruction as to which machines and weights in the gym would augment my PT. By working with a personal trainer, I feel confident that I will not hurt myself by doing more than I am capable of doing.So....6 months later, my shoulder is back to normal, I've lost an additional 20 lbs. and since last July I've gone from size 1X to size 8. I'm doing cardio workouts and weights and have never suffered from any significant muscle soreness, which had been a concern of mine. My knees are in better shape than I think they've ever been and I no longer struggle climbing stairs. Comparing my Personal Fitness Profile from November to May, I've reduced my abdomen circumference by 26%(!), my hip circumference by 11% and my waist circumference by 12%. I feel healthier than I think I've ever felt and I just wish I'd done this 25 years ago.! The environment of your facility remains most comfortable and welcoming. The shower and changing rooms are such that I find it very easy to work out and go directly to work. I even manage 5 - 10 minutes in the steam room most mornings! I always thought it would be exhausting to go to a gym, then to work. Not. When I get to work at 8 or 8:30, I feel just great. Now, being on the road to 60 doesn't feel as daunting as it did a few months ago!!

So ....I'm counting on you guys continuing to be your friendly and encouraging selves, since I've spent over 50 years being a slug and only 1/2 year discovering the rewards of a healthier body!! Keep after me!! And, thank you very very much, from the bottom of my heart.

Alan Perry

Randy,
I'd like to take a moment to thank you and your incredible staff. Over the past few years, I have had a very difficult time finding time to work out due to the daily commitments of my job, running a household, and bringing my three children to all of their activities. I found that the only time I had to workout was at either 4:00 AM or 10:00 PM, and it just wasn't working. I was always against the idea of joining a gym because I felt like they were just out there to accept your money, acting like they care about your health until you join, and then forget who you are. The only ones that usually stick with it at most gyms, are the "muscle-heads" that live for weightlifting. After you suggested that I try your facility for a week, free of charge, to see if would fit into my schedule, I figured, what do I have to lose. After I tried it for that week, I saw that you are entirely different in your interests, and it shows through your staff also. I have now been a member for over a year. and have seen an incredible improvement in my body and in my well being health-wise. I really look forward to my workouts every day. Your staff should be very much commended for that. They make every single member feel welcome, and I think of all of them as great friends that I have known for a lifetime. They welcome you and are always there to help if you need anything. I am also very impressed with the clientele that you have as members. They are all professional people and get along with each other like no group that I have seen before. Lastly, I feel like I belong to an elite club at PERSONAL FITNESS, with the free personal amenities that you offer to your members, such as: workout towels, shower towels, shampoo, conditioner, body soap, aftershave, mouthwash, blow dryers, and so many more things that would take too long to mention. You will have me as a member for life. Thanks for getting me "Fit For Life", at PERSONAL FITNESS!

I have recently returned from a wonderful to the Ecuadoran Islands of Galapagos. The trip was not a "sit on the bus or boat and look out the window" sort of adventure. It involved hiking every day over lava rocks (very challenging terrain) in blazing equatorial sun to see birds, tortoises, land and marine iguanas and plant life. There was also a lot of snorkeling in deep, wavy water--nothing like the Carribean sort of snorkeling. Without the work I've done at PFP there is no possible way that I could have either kept up with the group or enjoyed the adventure. I did both. It was a wonderful, exciting and energetic trip. Please feel free to call me if you want any information about the trip.

Russ and I have been very happy with our membership at Personal Fitness. With our busy schedules, its been a challenge to regularly schedule our workouts, but the location of the facility is so convenient that it is difficult NOT to go workout some time during the day. It really is wonderful to have a downtown facility. Our trainer, Patrick, is outstanding. He is very knowledgeable and continues to create a challenging workout that we enjoy. Patrick always makes time for our sessions and is accessible throughout the day for assistance. He really takes an interest in his clients and keeps us on track towards meeting our personal goals.

I have been a member for many years at PFP--going back to the "early days". Over those years, under Randy's direction and vision, PFP has been the premier personal training facilty in downtown Syracuse. I have been very fortunate to have trained with some wonderful and talented trainers that have become friends. What reallys sets PFP apart, in addition to its convenient location, top line equipment, friendly and clean environment, is that Randy and his crew always make you feel like family!

Sincerely,
CPP

I've been a member of Personal Fitness for a year now, and I am so happy with everything about it. The first thing that impressed me were the facilities, both the work-out area and the locker room. The locker room is spacious, very clean, and there are always plenty of supplies available. But what I like most about Personal Fitness is the professionalism of the staff. The trainers are on time with clients, always happy to answer questions or help with equipment, and very accommodating with scheduling. These are things I did not find at my previous gym. Finally, all of the staff are very friendly - they always acknowledge me and the other clients when we come in and when we leave. That's a small detail, but to me it goes a long way to show that the staff really cares about the clients.

Just thought I'd drop you a quick message to say that I think PFP "rocks" and to let you know that I am really, really impressed with the professional, knowledgable, and courteous staff at PFP.

Of all the gyms that I've belonged to, not one has ever come close to providing the personal attention, clean facilities, and pleasant work out atmosphere like PFP.

So thanks for all of your attention to details that many gyms lack. Keep up the good work, and know that you have a huge fan and "pro-bono marketer" in me!

Best,
Marisa

I am a MUPPIE (Middle-aged Urban Professional) who a year and a half ago was obese, hypertensive, hypercholesterolemic, hyperglycemic and with an extremely bulky waistline...in other words, I was suffering from Metabolic Syndrome. Qualitatively, life was a literal drag: poor sleep, lots of aches and pains, bursitis, fasciitis, heartburns, fatigue, headaches, irritability and depression. A colleague introduced me to his fitness center, Personal Fitness at Salina Place.

Although I enrolled because it was the intelligent thing to do, I was NOT committed consequently I gained more weight in the beginning. I was about to quit when by circumstances undesigned by me, I met the PT of my dreams who shares the same work ethic as I do. I was skeptic at first but after a couple of weeks I could feel my body responding positively to the no-nonsense program.

My mind was immediately engaged by the first set of exercises. I was particularly intrigued at how my PT can orient my body in space so that my spine is centered and I am able to lift the weights symmetrically, and I can isolate the target muscle effectively. It was uncanny, I thought, but my interest was picqued particularly when my low back pains and plantar fasciitis disappeared. My PT is soft-spoken but I was made amenable to discipline: do 1400 calories of aerobic exercises per week (yuk!); eat 3 fruits and 3 veggies (is that daily?); Squat! (was that a shout!). I had to rearrange my Universe to carve out time to go to the gym; I had to shop for fresh produce; I had to register in another gym when I'm out-of-town in order to rack up aerobic exercise calories (no rest for the wicked!). Oh, no! This is too much work and too much time. However, I cannot argue with the definitive results. I lost 30 lbs, my metabolism is normalizing(phew!), and I feel so much better. My PT is superb at setting small, yet incrementally increasing goals that are reasonably doable at the price of buckets of sweat. But I feel inspired, like I moved mountains or scaled one, and my PT congratulates me heartily as if I did (move mountains, I mean!). I can do anything just so I can see that sweet smile of success reflected back at me...from all the other dream PTs as well!

I was impressed from the start, when, during "intake", detailed questions were asked concerning history, meds, and exercise parameters, in relation to my status as a former heart patient. Next I was struck by the global approach to fitness preached (and practiced) at PFP. Weight training and cardio, as well as the timing, size, and content of meals, were all stressed, and I believe this approach was crucial in my dropping over twenty pounds in a couple of months, and feeling more energetic, and, in fact, better than ever, the whole time. The global approach was not the only important factor, of course. The facility itself is sharp and upscale in appearance and is clean and well-maintained. I have never once seen a piece of cardio equipment out of commission. The trainers are as a group well-informed, helpful, and supportive, and this adds to the positive, professional atmosphere. The particular trainers I have worked with have exhibited the remarkable patience and commitment needed to focus on the requirements of a beginner (i.e., total klutz) like me. This, despite the fact that they are clearly highly experienced and credentialed. A few months ago, I walked into the facility having been radically unfit for most of my life, just hoping for some minor improvement. Now, with PFP's capable assistance, I'm in charge of the situation, with new, ambitious goals of genuine fitness and long-term healthy lifestyle within reach.
